6 Lessons From Fitness Industry Leaders

I spent the weekend at a conference with 125+ of the best fitness coaches in the world. There were a dozen talks from the leaders in the industry. Here are 6 lessons that everyone needs to hear & my thoughts about them:

Fitness adds years to your life and life to your years. -Molly Galbraith

Fitness is about having the freedom to say yes to the things you love.

Confidence is a combination of competence, production, and courage. -Luka Hocevar

Confidence is born from consistently doing what you said you were going to do.

Maybe it’s not easier for everybody else. Maybe everyone else did the work that you’re not willing to do. -Natlalia Melo

Don’t be upset by the results you didn’t get from the work you didn’t do.

If trauma is generational, then so is healing. -Rachel Scheer

Family trees can be changed by one person changing their own life.

Success or failure isn’t absolute. It’s determined by expectations. -Adam Bornstein

Expectations drive perception. Perception drives reality.

Choose to believe the evidence that you generate. -Shanté Cofield

Facts don’t care about your feelings. Business & fitness have a ton of overlap. Most of the lessons I teach clients with fitness and nutrition I also need to tell myself with regards to my business. Because success in anything requires the same things:

✅ Consistency

✅ Patience

✅ Perseverance

✅ Bias toward action

✅ Attention to detail

✅ Grace

✅ Perspective

✅ Community

And that last one was confirmed for me in many ways this weekend. We’re the product of who we’re surrounded by, but it goes one step further.

We need people with us and we need people in front of us.

The people with us are experiencing the same frustrations, challenges, and excitements that we are. Spending time with those people pushes all of us to keep going. When I trained with other coaches, I pushed myself harder than I would have on my own. When I see other coaches doing great things in their business, it challenges me to keep improving my own.

The people in front of us show us what’s possible.

They pull us forward because they know what lies in store when we get there. We need these leaders to tell us that it’s worth it and that it can be done. They’ve experienced success and they know the path. We have to do the work ourselves, but they’re giving direction. We’re not meant to do this alone. Find people to walk with and people to follow. It makes the journey feel much more doable.

I recorded an entire podcast episode on support and fat loss - it talks about what good support looks like and how to find it.
